The Wagon R's tall-boy silhouette has made it one of Maruti's most consistently popular hatchbacks for over two decades — genuinely more headroom and a more commanding view of the road than most cars in its price band, without the footprint of a full SUV.
The regular range runs on Maruti's familiar 998cc or 1197cc K-series petrol engines, with a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT automatic, and a factory-fitted CNG option for buyers chasing the lowest possible running cost.
In June 2026, Maruti added something genuinely new: a Flex Fuel variant, India's first mass-market car capable of running on ethanol-petrol blends up to E100. It uses the same 1.2-litre K12N engine reworked with ethanol-compatible injectors, fuel lines and an ethanol sensor that automatically adjusts for whatever blend is in the tank. At launch it's being rolled out primarily to commercial and fleet buyers while E85/E100 pump infrastructure expands — worth knowing if you're a private buyer hoping to walk in and order one immediately.
